It is an honor to continue to serve as principal for the fantastic students and staff of Lakeview Terrace Elementary. You may know that I am a product of the Columbia Basin, having gone through my K-12 education in Othello. I taught third grade for three years in Ephrata, sixth grade for six years in Royal City, seventh-grade science for four years at Chief Mo, and was the assistant principal at Chief Moses for eight years before coming to Lakeview as the principal in the fall of 2014.
My husband and I have been married for over 25 years and have three fantastic children. Our oldest daughter was recently married, is an MLHS graduate, and a nurse at Kadlec in the Tri-Cities. Our son is also an MLHS grad and is currently in school pursuing nursing. Our youngest daughter is a student at MLHS, and participates on the cheer team, and is also a competitive gymnast.
The famous child psychologist, Haim Ginott, said this,
“To reach a child’s mind, a teacher must capture his heart. Only if a child feels right can he think right”
Over the years, it has been my experience that children learn and grow best in an environment where they feel safe both physically and emotionally, where they feel cared about and accepted, where they are treated with kindness and respect. This is what I want for my own kids, as well as “my kids” at Lakeview. It is our job as educators to ensure that every child is safe, valued and respected at school, but we must also teach the same to our students. Please join us in emphasizing this practice with your children.
I look forward to partnering with you to ensure that your children get what they need to reach their highest potential, that they set the foundation and develop the habits of mind that will lead to success in school, graduation from high school, and preparation for life. We know that parents are the most significant teacher in their child’s lives. Children follow their parents’ lead when forming attitudes toward school and learning. Please encourage your children to do their best at all times, to work hard, and never give up. We will do the same.
It is going to be another great year at Lakeview.
